Profile: Blast Off

Allegiance: Decepticon

Blast Off was a Decepticon criminal imprisoned for millions of years as a bodiless personality component in Decepticon Detention Center #217. He was freed in 1986, along with the other Combaticons, by Starscream, who was hoping to use them to build an army to rival Megatron's. At first Blast Off and his Combaticon comrades served Starscream, because Starscream had not equipped their bodies with energy absorbers, but after they were defeated by Menasor and banished to an asteroid by Megatron, emnity grew between the Combaticons and Starscream.

Starscream abandoned the Combaticons on their asteroid, so Blast Off towed their prison to Cybertron, where the Combaticons combined into their giant form, Bruticus and quickly overthrew Shockwave and his Sentinel guards. From there they plotted revenge against Megatron and every other creature on Earth, by reconfiguring the Spacebridge to push the Earth into the Sun.

Starscream returned to Cybertron with Shockwave, and tried to join up with the Combaticons again, but they took Starscream and Shockwave captive, placing them in a prison cell. The Autobots and Decepticons joined forces to stop the Combaticons and succeeded in rescuing the Earth from its fiery fate. Megatron had the Combaticon reprogrammed to be more obedient, and so Blast Off and his brothers began service in the Decepticon military anew.

Blast Off continued to serve under Onslaught throughout the remainder of the 20th century, and even into the 21st after the Decepticons defeat at the hands of Unicron and Rodimus Prime. He found himself among other Decepticon refugees gathered on the burned out planet, Charr, where they slowly sank into hopelessness due to energon shortages and poverty. In 2005, though, the Quintessons returned and offered or supply the Decepticons fuel needs if they would server them. That arrangement was very short-lived, as Galvatron and Quintesson treachery sundered the alliance.

Blast Off was quite active as the war withthe Autobots re-ignited. He procured the Death Crystal cannon from a Scukzoid among his other accomplishments. Most often, though, his duties were performed when he was merged with the other Combaticons, as Bruticus. He was among the first Decepticons infected with the Hate Plague, though they were all later cured by Matrix energy. Blast Off was involved in the final assault upon Cybertron, when Galvatron opened the Plasma Energy Chamber. It's highly likely that Blast Off was aboard Scorponok, when the battle station was sent hurtling across the galaxy by a bolt of Plasma Energy.
