Profile: Autobots

Autobots were originally created as worker slaves by the Quintessons. After millennia upon millennia the Quintessons' slaves developed sentience and rebelled against their cruel masters. With the help of the gladiator slaves they overthrew the Quintessons and forced them off of Cybertron and into space.

Millennia passed, and the worker slaves became known as Autobots, while the gladiator slaves took on the name Decepticons and the Quintesson enforcers became known as Guardians. Peace reigned for many years, but eventually war broke out between the Autobots and Decepticons. The Autobots gained an advantage over the Decepticons because they developed a way to rebuild their bodies so that they could assume the shapes of vehicles and other machinery, gaining the element of surprise, and so the first Transformers were created. The Guardians managed to stop the war and keep the peace throughout what is known as the Golden Age of Cybertron.

The Autobots lived peacefully, building great cities and studying the sciences to improve life. Their basic philosophy is that all life is sacred and is worth protecting and that all sentient beings deserve freedom. Another war eventually came to pass and this one the Guardians could not stop. This war consumed the planet and many Autobots died. The ancient Autobot, Alpha Trion, created a new Autobot design that was built for warfare, the first of which was named Optimus Prime. Alpha Trion also passed the most sacred relic on Cybertron, the Matrix, to Optimus Prime. The Matrix contains the wisdom and lifeforces of the deceased Autobot leaders, mingling them with the current holder, should the holder prove to be compatible with the Matrix, and making him a Prime.

Optimus Prime led the Autobots and organized them into an effective resistance, causing a stalemate between the warring factions. This war, the Great War, raged for 5 million years, until the planet's resoureces were exhausted. many Autobots fled into space and built colonies of their own among the stars. Others ventured in search of new resources, so that they could free their world of the Decepticons.

Optimus Prime led a group of Autobot an one such expedition. It was attacked by the Decepticons, and their ships crashed to the Earth, where they lay for another 4 million years. They re-awakened in the Earth year 1984 and continued their war. The Autobots eventually removed the Decepticons from Earth, and retook Cybertron after the Decepticons abandoned the planet after Unicron's attack in 2005.

A New Golden Age began in 2007, after Cybertron's resources were revitalized, thanks to Vector Sigma. The Autobots still continue to protect life wherever they find it and to combat any who seek to destroy wantonly or exploit the helpless.
